Swiss League, Game 1: September 30 - October 1, 2006

Benetton Fribourg Olympic provided the biggest surprise in the Swiss League so far by edging Basket-Club Boncourt 70-75 on the road in the opening round. Harold Mrazek led the winners with 16 points, as Fribourg led 26-35 at halftime and held off a late Boncourt rally to get a quality win. The Lugano Tigers started to defend their Swiss League title by downing Vevey Riviera Basket 66-76. Edwin Draughan, Jean Baptist Bah and Chris Grimm combined for 54 points, while Herman Alston had 34 points for Vevey. Yuanta Holland had 24 points and Valentin Wegmann added 20 to lead BBC Monthey to a 73-61 home win against Lausanne Morges Basket. Lausanne led 30-32 at halftime but Monthey rolled after the break to get its first win of the season. In other games, Sion Herens Basket edged Meyrin Grand-Saconnex 61-65 while the Birstal Starwings defeated Aurelys BBC Nyon 90-80.
