Latvian League, Semifinals, Game 1: April 25, 2007
Eddie Shannon - Ventspils Defending champion Ventspils pounded Liepajas Lauvas, while ASK Riga edged Barons/LMT in the opening games of the Latvian League's best-of-five playoff semifinals on Wednesday night. Ivars Timermanis led seven Ventspils scorers in double figures with 14 points and 7 rebounds as the hosts opened strong and then coasted on the way to a 90-53 win. Ventspils outscored Liepaja 27-7 in the first period to put the game out of reach. Eddie Shannon and Kaspars Cipruss scored 13 apiece and Raimonds Gabrans, Pavels Veselovs, Aigars Vitols and Akselis Vairogs each added 10 points as part of the big win. Mareks Jurevicus led the visitors with 12 points and 8 boards. Game 2 is set for Saturday. Meanwhile Sandis Valters shined with 34 points to lead Riga past Barons 94-93. Armands Skele was at the top of his game with 31 for Barons, but it would not be enough.
