Belgian League, Game 1: September 30 - October 1, 2006

Dexia Mons-Hainaut started the Belgian League season on a high note with a 78-76 win over Spirou Charleroi on Saturday night. Mons lead by as many as 12 early in the fourth quarter, before a Charleroi comeback that saw the lead trimmed to 2 with two minutes remaining. But Yemi Nicholson answered with a steal and a slam and then added a free throw in the final minute to seal the win. Shawnta Rogers led Mons with 24 points and 4 assists. George Evans added 16 and Monty Mack 14. Ralph Biggs had 20 in defeat. Yves Dupont came through with 15 points and 11 rebounds against his former team as Sanex Antwerp G topped Euphony Bree 60-75. Antwerp was in control from start to finish, leading by as many as 16 in the first quarter and coasting from there. Kelvin Torbert had 14 for Bree. Meanwhile Lavor Postell's 29 points helped Telindus Oostende hold off Basket Gr Leuven 77-72. Eric Hicks added 19 points and 14 reboubds. In Sunday's game, Okapi Aalstar topped R Atomia Brussels behind 33 points and 7 rebounds from Pablo Gonzalez. On Friday, Ron Ellis scored 18 points to lead six players in double-figures in points as Liege Basket topped Verviers-Pepinster 85-61.
