British League Finals Weekend: April 28-29, 2007
The Newcastle Eagles won the BBL Championship Playoff Final! The Eagles conquered the last title in the British season by beating the Scottish Rocks 95-82 in the title game in its own home court in Newcastle on Sunday, in a rematch of last year's final. Olu Babalola was named Most Valuable Player, leading the winners with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Tony Dorsey added 18 points while Andrew Bridge had 17 for the Eagles, that took revenge of last year's final. Rob Yanders led all scorers with 26 points for the Sharks. The Eagles led 47-44 at halftime and boosted their margin to 70-61 at the end of the third quarter. The Rocks never recovered, allowing the Eagles to put a bright end to its British season. In the first semifinal played on Saturday, the Eagles downed the Sheffield Sharks 73-83 to advance to the title game. Dorsey paced the winners with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeremy Hyatt addd 18 points for the Eagles while Jeff Bonds led the Sharks with 23 points. In the other semifinal, the Rocks bested the Guildford Heat 71-78 behind 14 points from Sterling Davis. Brian Dux and Mike Martin each had 23 points for the Heat, that got within 64-67 but could not complete its comeback down the stretch. The Sharks topped the Hear 105-97 in the third place game behind 28 points from Blake Shelton.
