Italian League, Game 32: April 28-29, 2007
The playoff race is hotter than ever with just two games to go in the Italian League regular season, as only four teams - Montepaschi Siena, Lottomatica Roma, Armani Jeans Milano and VidiVici Bologna - have mathematically made it to the next stage. Montepaschi registered its ninth consecutive win and improved to 28-4 by beating Premiata Montegranaro 82-89 on the road on Sunday behind 22 points from Rimantas Kaukenas. Meanwhile, Armani Jeans Milano thrashed Eldo Napoli 99-61 at home, while Lottomatica Roma stayed second at 21-11 by edging Siviglia Wear Teramo 75-78 on the road also on Sunday. David Hawkins paced Roma with 25 points while Erazem Lorbek added 18. Benetton Treviso showed its power by thrashing Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 82-63 at home on Sunday while Snaidero Cucine Udine kept its playoff hopes alibe with a 99-78 home win against Upea Capo d'Orlando in which Damon Williams had 27 points and 12 rebounds. Climamio dropped to 13-19 and mathematically ran out of playoff chances due to a 79-69 road loss against Air Avellino. In other games, Whirlpool Varese beat Tisettanta Cantu 80-69, VidiVici Bologna edged Legea Scafati 88-79 while TDShop.it Livorno topped Angelico Biella 103-91.
Montepaschi Siena kept rolling, registered its ninth consecutive win and improved to 28-4 by beating Premiata Montegranaro 82-89 on the road on Sunday. Kaukenas led the winners with 22 points, Terrell Mcntyre added 19 while Lonny Baxter had 12 for Montepaschi, that led all the way in the second half. Even when Montegranaro got within 82-85 in the finals second, Joseph Forte sealed the outcome with a layup and Kaukenas dunked it to finish it in style. Lottomatica Roma stayed second at 21-11 by edging Siviglia Wear Teramo 75-78 on the road also on Sunday. Hawkins paced Roma with 25 points, Lorbek added 18 while Alex Righetti had 16 for the winners.
