Bulgarian League Semifinals: May 3-7, 2007
Carlos Cherry - CSKA Sofia Lukoil and CSKA Sofia will face each other in the Bulgarian League finals! Both teams swept their best-of-five series against Cherno More IG and Spartak Pleven, respectively, and will face other in the finals. Lukoil thrashed Cherno More 96-71 in Game 1 on Wednesday. Mate Skelin led the winners with 17 points, Gjorgji Cekovski added 16, Todor Stoykov 15 while Donta Smith and Lamont Jones each had 13 points for Lukoil, that led 60-28 at halftime and never looked back. Lukoil got a 2-0 lead in the series with a 88-72 win on Thursday. Jones had 20 points for Lukoil, Smith added 15, Stoykov had 14 and Riste Stefanov 12. Lukoil had to battle harder to down Cherno More IG 85-87 in Game 3 and sweep the series. Smith led the way with 21 points, Stoykov added 20, Georgi Davidov 12 and Jones 11. Smith had the game-winning layup with 3 seconds to go. Meanwhile, CSKA edged Spartak Pleven 79-71 in Game 1 behind 20 points and 7 assists from Carlos Cherry and then added an 85-76 home win in Game 2. Once again, Cherry paced CSKA with 19 points. CSKA finished the job with a 80-91 road win in Game 3 that swept the series. Dimitar Mirakovski paced the winners with 26 points. Lukoil and CSKA meet in the finals for the first time since 2005.
