Russian League quarterfinals, Game 3-4: May 10-11, 2007
CSKA Moscow, Dynamo Moscow and Unics Kazan swept their respective best-of-five Russian League quarterfinal playoffs series and advanced to the semifinals the fastest way possible. Khimki Moscow needed one game more, but also checked into the semis after topping Dynamo Moscow region in four games. CSKA downed Spartak St. Petersburg 64-81 in Game 3 on Thursday to win the series 3-0. Theodoros Papaloukas paced the winners with 15 points, Matjaz Smodis and David Andersen each added 14 while Anton Ponkrashov had 11 for CSKA, that led 40-44 midway through the third quarter. CSKA boosted its margin to 51-61 after 30 minutes and then used a 0-13 run to seal the outcome. Dynamo also won its series 3-0 by beating Lokomotiv 66-84 in Rostov on Wednesday. Lazaros Papadopoulos paced the winners with 18 points. Dmitri Domani added 15, Antonis Fotsis had 12 and Bojan Popovic 11. Dynamo outscored its opponents by 8-26 in the final period to win the game. Unics had more trouble in edging Spartak Vgues 84-85 in Primore in Game 3. Ksystof Lavrinovic led Unics with 19 points. Saulius Stombergas and Yahor Meshchakarou each added 15, Darjus Lavrinovic had 12 and Jerry McCullough 10 for the winners. Unics led 69-82 with 3 minutes to go and held off a wild rally to advance to the semifinals. Khimki beat Dynamo Moscow region 79-90 on the road on Thursday and finished the series with a 63-80 win on Friday. In Game 3, Kelly McCarty paced the winners with 21 points, Vladimir Veremeenko and Ruben Wolkowyski each added 12 while Maciej Lampe had 11 for Khimki, which led 53-69 after 30 minutes. In Game 4, Lampe led the way with 20, Alexei Savkov added 11, Vladimir Dyachok 10 and McCarty posted 9 points and 16 rebounds to set up a semifinals clash with Kazan. CSKA and Dynamo will face each other in an all-Moscow showdown in the other semifinals series.
