Portuguese League Finals, Game 1: May 11, 2007
Ovarense Aerosoles left no doubt about who is the team to beat in the Portuguese League this season and got closer to defend last year's title by simply overwhelming FC Porto Ferpinta 83-46 in Game 1 of the best-of-five finals on Friday. Cordell Henry led the winners with 17 points. Gregory Stempin posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds while Shawn Jackson and Ben Reed each had 12 points for Ovarense. Nobody scored in double digits for Porto, as Rodrigo Mascarenhas and John Whorton each had 8 points. It was a balanced game in the early going, however, as Ovarense just led 17-16 after 9 minutes. A 15-0 run broke the game open, however, as Ovarense got a 38-21 halftime lead and boosted it to 64-34 after 30 minutes, enough to seal the outcome. Ovarense also hosts Game 2 on Sunday.
