Spanish League, Game 34: May 12-13, 2007
The Spanish League regular season came to an end this weekend and Tau Ceramica will have the home court advantage in each playoff round. Tau became he regular season winner with a 26-8 record by thrashing Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket 95-63 in Vitoria. Luis Scola led the winners with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting. DKV Joventut finished third at 23-11 by downing Real Madrid 81-70 in Badalona. Joventut was third at 23-11 due to its tie-break advantage against Barcelona, while Madrid finished second at 25-9. Rudy Fernandez paced the winners with 18 points and 8 assists. Winterthur FC Barcelona finished fourth at 23-11 despite beating Grupo Capitol Valladolid 90-69 at home behind 29 points from Juan Carlos Navarro. Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas was sixth at 21-13 by downing Etosa Alicante 94-82 at home while Unicaja was eighth at 17-17 due to a 67-60 road loss against MMT Estudiantes. In other games, Polaris World CB Murcia edged ViveMenorca 69-68 with game-winning free throws from Marcus Fizer, Akasvayu Girona thrashed Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada 80-60 while Pamesa Valencia downed Bruesa GBC 90-68. The quarterfinal matchups are: Tau - Unicaja, Real Madrid - Pamesa, DKV Joventut - Gran Canaria and Barcelona - Akasvayu.

Teletovic added 18 on 4-of-5 three-pointers, Igor Rakocevic and Tiago Splitter each had 15 while Serkan Erdogan got 12 in an easy win for Tau, that led 25-9 after 10 minutes and boosted its margin to 78-49 to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. DKV Joventut finished third at 23-11 by downing Real Madrid 81-70 in Badalona. Joventut was third at 23-11 due to its tie-break advantage against Barcelona, while Madrid finished second at 25-9. Fernandez paced the winners with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Charles Gaines added 13, Robert Archibald had 12 and Lubos Barton 10 for Joventut. Louis Bullock had 24 points for Real Madrid, Felipe Reyes added 14 and Alex Mumbru 12. Fernandez and Gaines fueled a 17-1 run that allowed Joventut to get a 20-point lead, 44-24, at halftime. A three-pointer by Fernandez made it a 25-point game, 53-28, but Madrid was not done. Bullock led a 0-21 run that got the guests back into the game, 55-51. Barton, Gaines and Ricky Rubio helped Joventut to seal the win in the final 3 minutes.
Winterthur FC Barcelona finished fourth at 23-11 despite beating Grupo Capitol Valladolid 90-69 at home. Juan Carlos Navarro paced the winners with 29 points, Jordi Trias added 15 while Jaka Lakovic had 11 in an easy home win for Barcelona, that kept a double-digit lead all the way in the final 15 minutes. Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas was sixth at 21-13 by downing Etosa Alicante 94-82 at home. The loss was especially bitter for Etosa, that will not play in the Spanish top division next season. Hunter had 24 points to lead Gran Canaria against his former team. Marcus Norris added 21 while Sitapha Savane and Jackson Vroman each had 11 for the winners. Three-pointers by Hunter and Kornel David gave Gran Canaria a 49-41 halftime lead. Hunter and Vroman broke the game open, 70-51, and Etosa never recovered. Unicaja was eighth at 17-17 due to a 67-60 road loss against MMT Estudiantes. Pancho Jasen led Estudiantes with 12 points, while Iñaki De Miguel and Marcus Brown each had 11 for Unicaja, that led 48-50 with 6 minutes to go. A 7-0 run put Estudiantes in charge for good, as Jasen and Goran Nikolic sealed the win for Estudiantes down the stretch.
