Portuguese League Finals, Game 2: May 13, 2007
FC Porto Ferpinta bounced back from its initial loss in the Portuguese League finals by edging Ovarense Aerosoles 79-87 in Game 2 in Ovar on Sunday night. As such, the best-of-five title series is now tied at 1-1 but Porto hosts Games 3 and 4 next week. Julian Blanks led the winners with 28 points on 3-of-4 three-pointers and 9-of-10 free throws. John Whorton and Larry Jon Smith each had 18 points and 9 rebounds while Rodrigo Mascarenhas pulled down 15 boards for Porto. Ben Reed led Ovarense with 21 points, Cordell Henry added 18, Elvis Evora posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds while Gregory Stempin also scored 13 points for the hosts. Ovarense led 28-21 early in the second quarter, but a mamooth 10-40 run allowed Porto to get full control of the game, 38-61. Ovarense did not give up, as Henry and Stempin got the hosts within 79-83 with 51 seconds remaining. Whorton and Smith helped Porto to seal the outcome.
