Israeli League, Game 24: May 13-14, 2007
Jamie Arnold - Maccabi Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv and Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem both won big, while Ironi Nahariya crushed Bnei Hasharon as the Israeli League Final Four picture started to take shape. Maccabi easily beat Gilboa/Afula at home 105-81 on Sunday, while Hapoel had an easy time topping Galil Elyon 100-81. Nayariya took advantage of Galil's defeat with a 72-97 victory at third-place Bnei Hasharon. After just 10 minutes, Nahariya led 10-32 as Bnei Hasharon looked helpless against an almost perfect offensive game by Nahariya. Juan Mendez finished with 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side, and Sasa Ocokoljic added 17 points. Lee Nailon led Bnei Hasharon with 18 points. Rishon Lezion scored a key win over Givat Shmuel 95-80 to open up a one-win gap from last place, where Givat Shmuel sits is. Rishon also won the tie-breaker by beating Givat Shmuel for the second time this season, which could become crucial on the last night of the season. Jerel Blassingame led Rishon with 29 points and Bryant Markson added 21. Boo Davis posted 23 for Givat Shmuel. In another key game to determinate which team will drop to the second league, Ironi Ramat Gan beat Ashkelon on the road 79-87. The win likely secures Ramat Gan's spot in the league for one more season, while Ashkelon is tied with Givat Shmuel for last place. Jai Lewis led five Ramat Gan scorers in double digits with 20 points. Darryl Wilson and Rob Brown added 16 each while Shmulik Brener had 11 and John Allen 10. Marcus Hatten led Ashkelon with 21 points and 8 assists.

Maccabi once again broke the 100-point barrier at home and added another win to the collection with a 105-81 victory over Gilboa/Afula. The champs climbed to a 22-2 record with an easy game, which they dominated from the first quarter. Halfway through the opening period, Maccabi led 17-13, but then came a run that made it 31-20 after 10 minutes. The visitors stormed the court in the second quarter to get back to 40-39, but Maccabi responded in time and started its halftime break with a 52-45 lead. Jaime Arnold and Rich Melzer dominated the first half and continued to do so in the third quarter. Gilboa/Afula made it a 2-point game again, but Maccabi finally woke up and by the end of the third already held a 77-62 lead. Once Melzer fouled out, Maccabi extended the lead even more and finished with a 24-point win. Arnold led Maccabi with 32 points and just a single miss out of 13 shots. Lior Eliyahu and Derrick Sharp added 11 each and Will Bynum finished with 10 points, 5 assists, 5 turnovers and 5 steals. Melzer led the losing side with 27 points and Tunji Awojobi added 18.

After three losses in four games Hapoel got back on track with a 100-81 home win over Galil Elyon. Hapoel was on top of this game from the start, taking a 9-point lead late in the first quarter before Kenny Adeleke made it 25-18 after 10 minutes. Mario Austin gave Hapoel its first double-digit lead early in the second quarter and then the hosts went on a 19-4 run to take a 49-24 lead, on the way to 58-33 advantage at halftime. The margin swayed from 20 to 29 points until the last minutes, and Galil's last baskets were cosmetic only. Meir Tapiro led six Hapoel scorers double figures with 21 points, Timmy Bowers added 16, Austin, Erez Markovic and Horace Jenkins scored 11 each and Dror Hagag had 10. Sasa Bratic led Galil with 22 points, while Adeleke finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
