Lithuanian League Finals, Game 4: May 14, 2007
Arturas Jomantas - Lietuvos Rytas Defending champion Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius evened up the Lithuanian-League finals at 2-2 on Monday with a 73-65 win over rival Zalgiris Kaunas. Teenage scorer Martynas Gecevicius erupted for a season-high 22 points on perfect shooting in just 23 minutes to pace L. Rytas to the key win at Siemens Arena. Zalgiris seemed in control early, as Jonas Maciulis scored 5 early points and Zalgiris took a 2-9 lead. L. Rytas got within 17-19 at the end of the period and tied it at 22-22 on a Gecevicius triple early in the second, but Tanoka Beard stepped up and enabled Zalgiris to lead 31-36 at halftime. The hosts took their first lead on a Marijonas Petravicius layup early in the third and would never trail again. Zalgiris would tie the score three more times and kept it close to the very end. DeJuan Collins brought Zalgiris within 67-65 with a pair of free throws with 1:23 remaining, but Arturas Jomantas and Roberts Stelmahers combined to go 6-for-6 from the line the rest of the way and Zalgiris missed its next four shots as the win remained with the hosts. Jomantas posted 14 points for L. Rytas, Joao Paulo Batista added 11 points and 12 rebounds and Stelmahers had 8 points and 5 assists. Beard led Zalgiris with 15 points, Collins added 12 and Paulius Jankunas had 11. Game 5 is set for Thursday night at Kaunas.
