French League playoffs, quarterfinals, Game 1: Μay 15, 2007
Gravelines-Dunkerque recorded the biggest upset of the opening games of the French-League playoffs on Tuesday by topping regular-season champion Sluc Nancy 79-77. The best-of-three quarterfinals series feature the first game on the lower-seeded teams' floor, with the remaining games at the home court of the higher-seeded team. Accordingly, Gravelines will still need to win a game at Nancy to complete the upset and clinch a ticket to the semifinal. In Tuesday's other games, Adecco Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne outclassed Strasbourg 90-74 behind Rowan Barrett's 23 points, Chalon/Saone topped Le Mans 62-73 as Terrell Everett came through with 17 points and Roanne outlasted Cholet 60-68 thanks to 25 points and 9 rebounds from Aaron Harper.
Gravelines enjoyed a big game from newcomer Bobby Dixon on the way to an upset of Nancy. The game was close throughout, with Nancy leading 40-41 at halftime. The hosts ent up 63-58 after 30 minutes and held on down the stretch. Nancy had a chance to pull it out, but Branko Milisavljevic last three-point effort missed. Dixon finished with 26 points in 31 minutes off the bench, while Stephen Brun added 14 and Rickey Paulding 13. Big Uche Nsonwu-Amadi pulled down 22 rebounds. Tariq Kirksay finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Nancy, Maxime Zianveni also scored 19 and Milisavljevic added 12.
Adecco Asvel led by 11 after 10 minutes and increased the margin to 56-30 at halftime on the way to an easy win over Strasbourg. Barrett fired in five triples on his way to 23 poits in 26 minutes. Chevon Troutman added 21 for the hosts, while Yohann Sangare posted 17. Chuck Eidson, Sacha Giffa, Aerick Sanders and Gauthier Darrigand each scored 10 for Strasbourg in defeat. Chalon held Le Mans to 24 points in the entire second half to claim a 9-point road win. Le Mans looked in control with a 38-28 halftime advantage, but the host were outscored 10-23 in the third period as Chalon took the lead. The visitors remained ahead through defense and cruised to victory. Everett led the way with 17, Jermaine Guice added 16 and Mamoutou Diarra had 14. Nebojsa Bogavac netted 18, Sandro Nicevic 17 and Kenny Gregory had 10 for Le Mans. Eric Campbell had 9 points and 9 rebounds.
