Belgian League playoffs, Semifinals, Game 1: May 15-16, 2007
Telindus Oostende and Euphony Bree recorded lopsided victories in the opening games of the Belgian League semifinals. Oostende topped Sanex Antwerp G 84-61 on Tuesday and Bree never trailed as it upset regular-season champion Spirou Charleroi 72-96 on Wednesday. It was pupil over master as Oostende coach Sharon Druscker, a former player and later assistant coach under Antwerp boss Arik Shivek, had his way in an easy win. Antwerp started quick and raced to an 8-16 advantage, but an 8-0 run in the second period brought the hosts back and score settled at 35-34 at halftime. Sam Van Rossom scored half the points during a 10-0 third-quarter run that put Telindus in control for good and then Titus Ivory and Glen McGowan starred as the hosts reeled off 15 unanswered points in the fourth to build a 30-point lead to the delight of the fans. Van Rossom led five Oostende scorers in double figures with 16 points, Rashad Wright added 15, McGowan 13, Ivory 11 and Veselin Petrovic had 10. Kelley McClure had 14 and Len Matela 10 for Antwerp. Bree showed it meant business from the start, scoring the game's first 5 points and then taking a 6-19 lead on 5 straight points from Ben Ebong. Carey Brewer carried Charleroi back to within 1 before a triple from Brian Lynch capped th first period at 22-26. Spirou kept it close in the second, but Bree finished the half on a 0-7 run to take a 38-48 halftime lead. But the second half was all about the visitors. Lynard Stewart, Jeff Horner and Kelvin Torbert took turns scoring as the cushion grew to 43-65 in the third period and Bree coasted. The lead reached 26 points in garbage time as the visitors celebrated the win. Lynch led Bree with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Torbert added 17, Horner 15 and Ebong and Stewart 14 each. Brewer posted 19 and Tremmell Darden 16 in defeat.
