Serbian League, Phase 2, Game 9: May 16, 2007
Hemofarm Vrsac edged FMP Zeleznik and Vojvodina stunned Partizan Belgrade to shake things up in the Serbian League on Wednesday. The results leave Hemofarm, which won on the road 78-79, in first place in Phase 2 of the league with an 8-1 record. Nebojsa Joksimovic scored 25 points and Predrag Suput came up big down the stretch as Hemofarm held on for a tough win in a great game that saw 7 lead changes and 7 ties in the last 13 minutes! Meanwhile, Vojvodina's Uros Duvnjak sank a three-pointer in the waining seconds to beat defending champion Partizan 96-95. The hosts hadn't led even once all game before Duvnjak's game-winner. In other games, Crvena Zvezda got 31 points from Milan Gurovic and 20 from Tadija Dragicevic to beat Mega Ishrana 94-86 and Dusan Knezevic scored 23 and Igor Mijajlovic had 16 points and 7 assists to lead Masinac over Sloga 75-81.
FMP came out hot and raced to a 13-2 lead, but Hemofarm slowly climbed back and was within 47-44 at halftime. Stefan Markovic led the Hemofarm comeback in the third quarter and gave the visitors their first lead at 59-60. From that point the game went back and forth, with the lead switching hands six more times before it was over. Milos Teodosic tied the game and then gave FMP a 76-75 lead from the line, but Joksimovic answered back for Hemofarm and after Teodosic and Branko Cvetkovic missed, Suput iced the game from the line. Joksimovic finished with a game-high 25 points and 4 assists, Bojan Bakic added 12 and Markovic 11. Cvetkovic led FMP with 19, Zoran Erceg had 17, Teodosic scored 13 points and dished 9 assists and Predrag Samardziski added 10 points, 7 assists and 3 blocked shots.
Partizan got a leg up with a 13-21 start and finished the first period up 21-26. The lead reached 13 late in the second quarter, but Vojvodina finished the period on a 9-0 run to cut the gap to 48-52. Partizan pulled away to 10 once more, but Vladimir Golubovic and Dusan Djordjevic helped Vojvodina make it a 2-point game before the third period was over. The score was then tied twice in the fourth quarter, though each time Partizan answered to go back on top. In the last minute, Uros Tripkovic put the visitors up 91-94, but Istvan Nemeth matched him from the free-throw line. Then Vonteego Cummings made only one of two from the line and Duvnjak took advantage with the clutch triple at the other end. Nemeth led Vojvodina with 22, Duvnjak added 19 and Ivan Ivanovic 18. Tripkovic drilled 7-of-11 threes on his way to 29 points for Partizan, Kosta Perovic added 17 and Cummings 15.
