Russian League playoffs, Semifinals, Game 2: May 17, 2007
Dynamo Moscow overran CSKA Moscow 70-84 to knot their best-of-five Russian League semifinals at 1-1, while Unics Kazan dumped Khmki Moscow 81-78 to take a 2-0 lead. Dynamo started the game with 14 unanswered points and led 15-26 after 10 minutes. The defending champs cut the gap to 35-40 at halftime and then tied it at 42-42, but Dynamo remained staunch and rallied to a 51-64 lead heading into the fourth period and headed to victory. Lazaros Papadopoulos was a dominant force from the paint for Dynamo with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks and the perimeter players took advantage by netting an incredible 11-of-14 three-pointers (78.6%). Antonis Fotsis led Dynamo with 17 points, Sergey Bykov – who was 4-for-4 from downtown – added 12 and Bojan Popovic 10. Anton Ponkrashov led CSKA with 16, Trajan Langdon, who suffered from an off shooting night and miss all three-point attempts, added 12, while Matjaz Smodis posted 10 and Theodoros Papaloukas had 10 points and 6 assists. Meanwhile in Kazan, the hosts stormed back from a 30-45 halftime deficit with a huge third quarter on the way to a tough win. Sergey Chikalkin led Kazan with 20, Jerry McCullough poured in 19, Saulius Stombergas scored 11 and Darjus Lavrinovic 10. Vladimir Veremeenko led Khimki with 14 and Kelly McCarty and Maciej Lampe both added 12. McCarty also grabbed 10 rebounds. Both series now switch venues and resume on Sunday.
