Portuguese League finals, Game 3: May 17, 2007
FC Porto Ferpinta took a surprising 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Portuguese League finals on Thursday with a 68-64 win over Ovarense Aerosoles. Porto, which finished the regular season in third place, hosts Game 4 on Saturday. Game 3 was close throughout, with holding a small 35-30 lead at halftime and 53-49 after 30 minutes. Cordell Henry tied the score at 64-64 for Ovarense with 1:11 remaining, but Julian Blanks sank a pair from the line to restore Porto's lead and Larry Jon Smith made it a 4-point game with 16 seconds remaining. Last-dicth efforts by Miguel Miranda, Henry and Gregory Stempin all missed, allowing Porto to celebrate the big win. Blanks finished with 17 points and 8 assists for Porto, while John Whorton had 16 points and 9 rebounds and Smith added 15. Ben Reed led Ovarense with 20 points and 8 rebounds, Elvis Evora added 14, Henry had 12 and Stempin 10.
