Russian League Semifinals, Game 3: May 20, 2007
CSKA and Unics Kazan are just one win away from making it to the Russian League finals, as both teams have a 2-1 lead in their respective best-of-five semifinal series against Dynamo Moscow and Khimki. CSKA regained the home court advantage by downing Dynamo Moscow 73-85 on the road in Game 3 on Sunday. Trajan Langdon led the winners with 18 points. David Andersen and Aleksey Savrasenko each added 15 while Matjaz Smodis had 10 for CSKA. Taquan Dean led Dynamo with 19 points. CSKA broke the game open in the second quarter, as Langdon led a 3-12 run that gave his team a 31-44 halftime margin. CSKA soon boosted its margin to 38-58 and never looked back. Meanwhile, Khimki registered its first win in the series by beating Unics Kazan 89-80 in the Moscow region on Sunday. Kelly McCarty led the winners with 21 points. Maciej Lampe added 14, Ruben Wolkowyski had 13 while Vladimir Veremeenko and Vitaliy Fridzon each got 12 for Khimki. Jarod Stevenson had 16 points for Unics, Saulius Stombergas added 12 while Ksystof Lavrinovic and Yahor Meshcharakou each got 11 for the guests, that still lead the series 2-1. A 9-1 final run in the first quarter allowed Khimki to get a 33-22 lead after 10 minutes. Unics got within 46-39 at halftime and briefly got the lead, 63-64, late in the third quarter. Wolkowyski buried a triple for a 66-64 Khimki edge after 30 minutes. Unics never led again, but Meshcharakou brought the guests within 79-78 with 3 minutes to go. Three-pointers by Wolkowyski and Gianmarco Pozzecco broke the game for good.
