Russian League playofs, Semifinals, Game 4: May 21, 2007
Defending champion CSKA Moscow and Unics Kazan advanced to the Russian League finals on Monday with respective road wins in Game 4 of their semifinals series. CSKA dominated from the start on the way to a convincing 79-99 win, while Kazan needed two overtimes to put away Khimki Moscow 96-97. The finals will open on Sunday in Moscow. David Andersen came off the bench to lead six CSKA scorers in double figures with 23 points in a blowout victory. The visitors outscored Dynamo in each of the first three periods, taking a 32-52 lead at halftime and pushing it to 49-78 after 30 minutes before loosening up in the fourth quarter. Aleksey Savrasenko and Oscar Torres added 12 points apiece, Trajan Langdon and Anton Ponkrasov posted 11 each and Zakhar Pashutin 10 for CSKA, which shot better from two-point (71.8%) and three-point (58.3%) range than from the free-throw line (50%). Eddie Gill scored 14 points and dished 7 assists and Antonis Fotsis had 14 points and 8 rebounds to lead Dynamo. Sergei Bykov added 12 points, Andrei Trushkin 11 and Taquan Dean 10. Khimki mounted a strong comeback after entering the fourth quarter down 51-64 to tie the game at 76-76 on free throws by Melvin Booker and force overtime. Kelly McCarty rescued Khimki at the end of the first overtime with a three-pointer that took the game to another extra period, 86-86. The game went down to the wire, as a three-pointer by Sergei Chikalkin gave Unics a 94-95 edge with 29 seconds to go. Booker answered with free throws by Jerry McCullough stepped up with a driving layup that won the game for Unics with 2.8 seconds to go, after 50 minutes on an intense battle!
