Portuguese League Finals, Game 5: May 22, 2007
FC Porto Ferpinta is just one win away from becoming the new Portuguese League champion by downing Ovarense 76-82 in Ovar in Game 5 of the finals on Tuesday night. Porto now has a 3-2 lead against the defending Portuguese League champion in the best-of-seven series and hosts Game 6 this Thursday. Paulo Cunha led the winners with 18 points and 10 rebounds. John Whorton added 17, TJ Sorrentine had 14 while Rodrigo Mascarenhas also posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for Porto. Cordell Henry had 21 points for Porto, Gregory Stempin added 20 while Elvis Evora and Ben Reed each got 10 for the hosts. Back-to-back baskets by Evora and Reed gave Porto a 34-29 lead at halftime. The game stayed balanced early in the second half, as Evora tied it at 61-61 with less than 6 minutes to go. Six points by Whorton and a critical triple by Julian Blanks allowed Porto to escape with a decisive win.
