Slovenian League playoffs, Semifinals, Game 3: May 23, 2007
Domen Lorbek - Union Olimpija Defending champion Union Olimpija Ljubljana and regular-season champion Helios Domzale will meet in the Slovenian League finals after each won their deciding semifinal games on Wednesday night. Olimpija defeated Geoplin Slovan 79-73 behind Slavko Duscak's 22 points, while Helios beat Zlatorog 71-62 thanks to Robert Troha's 25 points to with their respective best-of-three series 2-1. Gasper Vidmar started strong as Slovan led by as many as 8 points late in the opening period, but Olimpija stayed close, tied the score at 38-38 at halftime and seemed poised to pull away as the second half began. However Slovan used an 11-0 run to finish the third period on top 50-56. Olimpija came back with a 10-0 spurt to make it 67-61. Mario Moore got Slovan within 67-64 with a minute-and-a-half remaining, but Olimpija closed the door on Slovan's hopes and and the home fans were able to celebrate a return to the finals. Domen Lorbek added 14 points, Marko Rakocevic had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Dwayne Lee scored 11 for the winners. Jaka Klobucar posted 15 and Davor Marcelic had 13 for Slovan in defeat. Meanwhile, Troha and Ziga Zagorc combined for 9 points during an 11-0 fourth-quarter run that put Helios ahead for good on the way to its 9-point win. Zagorc finished with 17 points and 6 assists and Smiljan Pavic added 8 points and 12 rebounds. Bosko Stojakovic and Salih Nuhanovic led Zlatorog with 11 each. The best-of-five finals are set to begin on Saturday in Domzale.
