Greek League playoffs, semifinals, Game 2: May 24, 2007
Euroleague champion Panathinaikos escaped from Hellinikon with a 65-69 victory over Panionios to take a 2-0 lead in the Greek League semifinals, while Olympiacos Piraeus edged Aris TT Bank 82-68 to tie their best-of-five series at 1-1. The Greens had some trouble with Panionios, but they showed their quality, experience and character to beat Panionios and move within one victory of a seventh consecutive appearance in the Greek League finals. The hosts led 39-36 at halftime, but Panathinaikos improved its game and soared to 44-49. Panionios came back and Kennedy Winston put his team ahead 65-64 only to see Sani Becirovic and Dimitris Diamantidis score a two-point shot and a big three, respectively, to seal the victory. Becirovic led the way with 15 points and Kostas Tsartsaris scored 11 points and grabbed 6 boards. For Panionios, Andre Hutson had 14 points, Stratos Perperoglou 12 and Winston 11. In Piraeus Henry Domercant and Scoonie Penn were on fire and combined for 42 points to guide Olympiacos to an easy victory. The Reds built an early 35-17 lead and kept the margin in double figures to coast to victory. The biggest event in the game took place with 9 minutes to go, when Aris's Alex Scales punched Andrija Zizic and was disqualified, as was Arvydas Macijauskas, who tried to defend his teammate. Further sanctions are expected from the Greek league judge. Domercant bagged 22 points and Penn had 20 for the hosts. Terrell Castle scored 18 points, Scales contributed 15 points and Jeremiah Massey added 11 points and 6 boards for Aris.
