Turkish League playoffs, Finals, Game 1: May 25, 2007
Game 1 of the Turkish League's best-of-seven final series turned out to be something of a shocker as Fenerbahce Ulker blew out Efes Pilsen 82-52 on the home floor those teams share, Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul. The majority of Fenerbahce fans among the 8,000-strong crowd had to be worried when Efes stormed to a 0-8 lead to start the game, but their team soon turned things around. Willie Solomon string of points got his team back in the game, and even though Efes led 14-17 after one quarter, Fenerbahce took over starting the second with a three-pointer from Ira Clark. That's when Damir Mrsic entered and blew open the game, drilling 3 straight three-pointers to give Fenerbahce its first lead at 27-26. They would not trail again. Solomon's driving basket ended the first half 36-28, and after the break, Fenerbahce's bombing continued. Mrsic, Solomon and Omer Onan combined on 6 three-pointers to extend Fenerbahce's lead to 17 points, 60-42, at the end of the third quarter. In the last quarter, Efes turned off as Fenerbahce kept extending its lead to 30 points. Hakan Demirel's three-pointer seconds before the buzzer left a 82-52 final score and gve Fenerbahce a 1-0 lead in the series. Solomon and Mrsic finished with 22 points each for Fenerbahce, while Semih Erden scored 8 and grabbed 8 boards. Ermal Kuqo scored 12 points and Drew Nicholas 11 for Efes. Fenerbahce's Edward Basden scored no points but played key defense and had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal as the hidden hero for the winners. Game 2 of the series is Sunday, again at Abdi Ipekci.
