Italian League Quarterfinals, Game 5: May 27, 2007
VidiVici Bologna became the last team to make it to the Italian League semifinals by thrashing Angelico Biella 89-72 in do-or-die Game 5 of their best-of-five quarterfinal series, that Virtus obviously won 3-2. Fabio Di Bella and Guilherme Giovannoni led the winners each with 14 points. Brett Blizzard and Vlado Ilievski added 11 apiece while Dusan Vukcevic had 10 for Virtus, that will face Armani Jeans Milano in the next round. Reece Gaines and Jamel Thomas each had 16 points for Biella, Antonio Porta added 12 and Paolo Barlera 11. Biella opened the game with a 5-13 run that Porta capped with a three-pointer, while back-to-back dunks by Erik Daniels and Barlera allowed the guests to keep a 15-23 lead after 10 minutes. Vukcevic capped an 11-2 run with a dunk that brought VidiVici back into the game, 26-27. Even when Gaines and Daniels made Biella regain the lead, 32-38, three-pointers by Blizzard, Ilievski and Vukcevic helped the hosts to get a 43-41 halftime edge. Blizzard and Giovannoni fueled a game-breaking 19-0 run after the break that allowed Virtus to get a 65-43 margin late in the third quarter. Thomas gave Biella some hope, 65-53, already in the final period, but Ilievski and Giovannoni made the hosts cruise to a well-deserved win.
