German League Quarterfinals, Game 4: May 29, 2007
Marcin Gortat RheinEnergie EnBW Ludwigsburg became the second team to advance to the German League semifinals by downing Bayer Giants Leverkusen 81-90 in Game 4 on the road on Tuesday to win their best-of-five quarterfinal series 3-1. Jerry Green led the winners with 30 points while Michel Ferreira and Milan Goljovic each added 15 for Ludwigsburg, which joins the Artland Dragons in the semifinals. The other two series, however, are tied at 2-2, as Telekom Baskets Bonn and defending champion RheinEnergie won their respective games and stayed alive in the competition. Bonn edged Brose Baskets 59-54 at home also on Tuesday behind 19 points from Jason Conley. Meanwhile, RheinEnergie used a 10-2 final run to edge Eisbaren Bremerhaven 73-71 at home on a game-winning layup by Marcin Gortat. Brose Baskets and Bremerhaven host Game 5 of their respective series on Thursday.

EnBW Ludwigsburg advanced to the semifinals by downing Bayer Giants Leverkusen 81-90 in Game 4 on the road on Tuesday to win the best-of-five quarterfinal series 3-1. Green led the winners with 30 points while Ferreira and Goljovic each added 15 for Ludwigsburg. Brandon Woustra had 23 points for Leverkusen, Brant Bailey added 16, Jared Newson 13 and Eric Taylor 11. Goljovic and Green shined in the first half to make Ludwigsburg get a 44-47 edge at the break. Bailey and Woudstra led the Leverkusen comeback after the break, 54-50. Newson and another triple by Woudstra soon boosted the hosts' led to 69-59 late in the third quarter. Ludwigsburg, led by an outstanding Green, got within 71-69 early in the final period, and when he finally got some help from Gordon Scott, the guests led 78-79 with 4 minutes to go. Je'Kel Foster hit a key triple and Green copied him to make Ludwigsburg seal the outcome and advance to the semifinals.

Telekom Baskets Bonn managed to stay alive in the German League quarterfinals by edging Brose Baskets 59-54 at home also on Tuesday. Series is now tied at 2-2 but Brose Baskets hosts Game 5 in Bamberg on Thursday. Conley led the winners with 19 points while Jason Gardner added 12 for Bonn. Steffen Hamann had 12 points for Brose Baskets. Conley and Tyray Pearson helped Bonn in the second quarter, as their team got a 27-33 halftime edge. Hamann, Vincent Yarbrough and Zelly Wesson rescued Brose Baskets after the break, as another basket by Wesson allowed the guests to keep a 41-47 edge after 30 minutes. Conley and Gardner kept pacing Bonn, but Ensminger helped Brose Baskets to stay ahead, 47-51, with 4 minutes to go. Gardner singlehandedly managed to put Bonn ahead, 52-51, with less than 2 minutes to go, while a three-pointer by Conley made it 55-51. Even when Sean Dockery scored with 16 seconds to go, 4 free throws by Artur Kolodziejski allowed Bonn to seal the outcome.

RheinEnergie needed a wild comeback to edge Eisbaren Bremerhaven 73-71 at home on Tuesday. Series is tied at 2-2 but Bremerhaven host Game 5 on Thursday. Aleksandar Nadjfeji paced the winners with 23 points, Immanuel McElroy added 15 while Demond Mallet had 11 for RheinEnergie. Adam Chubb had 18 points for Bremerhaven, Zygimantas Jonusas added 17 and Charles Wallace 14. Jonusas and an outstanding Chubb helped Bremerhaven to get a 32-35 halftime lead. Nadjfeji and Archibald tried to change things for RheinEnergie in the third quarter, but Bynum, Jonusas and Guinn still kept the guests, as a triple by Nadjfeji got RheinEnergie within 51-54 after 30 minutes. Bremerhaven kept founding Jonusas, Wallace and Chubb early in the final period, enouth for the guests to lead 57-62 midway through the fourth quarter. Mallet stepped up for RheinEnergie, but Jonusas and Wallace allowed Bremerhaven to get a 62-69 lead with 3 minutes remaining. Nadjfeji and Mallet led a 11-2 run that Gortat capped with a put-back layup to give RheinEnergie a 73-71 lead and keep its hopes alive for Game 5 of the series.
