Turkish League Finals, Game 4: June 1, 2007
Fenerbahce Ulker took the Turkish League title by sweeping archrivals Efes Pilsen 4-0 thanks to a resounding 76-98 victory in Game 4 of their best-of-seven series on Friday night. Mirsad Turkcan was the high scorer for Fenerbahce with 21 points, to which he added 12 rebounds for a double-double. Ibrahim Kutluay followed with 19 points, Omer Onan with 17 and Damir Mrsic with 15 points, all of his on three-point shots. Efes shot its 54% from the floor, its highest percentage of the series, and killed the hopes of Efes to get back in the series with a 4-23 second-quarter run. Triples by Onan and Kutluay shortly after the opening tipoff gave Fenerbahce a 2-11 lead to work with, but Efes responded by the end of the first quarter, when points by Nikola Prkacin and Marcus Haislip cut the gap to 18-23. Efes completed then started the second quarter with a 9-0 run that finished with a Kerem Gonlum's layup and a 27-22 advantage. But that's when the killer run of Fenerbahce started with the strong support of excellent defence. Eddie Basden started the fire with a three-pointer, and then Mrsic and Kutluay took over with incredibly sharp shooting. Each launched and landed 3 triples in what was left of the second quarter as Fenerbahce blasted in front 31-46. In the third quarter, with the huge support of 13,000 Fenerbahce fans who packed Abdi Ipekci arena, the lead was extended to 20 points, 38-58, on another three-pointer by Onan. Fenerbahce entered the last quarter ahead by 53-68, and now it was Turkcan's turn. His 3 consecutive three-pointers between the 34th and 36th minute boosted the difference to 25 points, 62-87, and the rest of the game was dedicated to Fenerbahce Ulker fans celebrating what would end as a 76-98 final score. The title was extra special for Fenerbahce as the club is celebrating its 100 anniversary. Fenerbahce's only previous Turkish League title came in 1991. Kutluay was the only player on the court who was the part of the team in both titles. Team captain Damir Mrsic received the trophy from Turgay Demirel, the President of Turkish Basketball Federation.
