Cibona got closer to sucessfully defend its Croatian League title by downing Zadar 111-97 in Game 1 on the best-of-five title series on Sunday. Zadar hosts Game 2 on Tuesday. Chris Warren led the winners with 24 points. Brent Wright added 20 on 8-of-10 two-pointers, Andrew Wisniewski added 19, Davor Kus 15 on 11-of-12 free throws while Luksa Andric got 14 points for Cibona. Carl English led Zadar with 22 points. Frano Colak added 19, Juby Johnson had 13, Todor Gecevski posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, Rok Stipcevic also got 12 points and Jure Lalic 11 for the guests. A 17-2 run allowed Cibona to recover from a double-digit deficit in the third quarter and get the lead for good.
Zadar led 13-14 midway through the first quarter but an outstanding Wright allowed Cibona to regain a 27-24 edge after 10 minutes. English stepped up for Zadar to make the guests get a 37-40 edge late in the second quarter. Stipcevic and Colak boosted Zadar's lead to 42-50 before Kus brought Cibona within 46-52 at halftime. Once again Colak allowed Zadar to get an 11-point lead, 48-59, early in the third quarter. Cibona found a go-to guy in Wisniewski, who led a 17-2 run that put Cibona ahead for good, 65-61. Kus and Andric made Cibona boost its margin to 79-68 and even when Gecevski and English brought Zadar within 96-90, the guests failed to complete their rally. Warren took over in the final 3 minutes to make Cibona cruise to a well-deserved win.
