Brose Baskets needed overtime to edge EnBW Ludwigsburg 83-85 in Game 1 on Sunday. Casey Jacobsen led the winners with 23 points. Darren Fenn added 19, Zelly Wesson posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Tim Begley had 10 points for Brose Baskets. Jerry Green had 30 points for Ludwigsburg while Pavelas Cukinas added 19. Jacobsen took the game to overtime, 69-69, and hit a game-winning triple with 7 seconds to go in the extra period to seal the outcome. Meanwhile, RheinEnergie got a 1-0 lead in the series by downing the Artland Dragons 83-70 in Cologne on Sunday. Aleksandar Nadjfeji led the winners with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists. Marcin Gortat added 18 points, Immanuel McElroy had 17 and Ronnie Burrell 11. Lamont McIntosh had 20 points on 6-of-6 triples to lead the Dragons, Adam Hess added 17 and Darius Hall 11. RheinEnergie capped the game with a 13-0 run in the final 6 minutes, enough to seal the win.
Nadjfeji had already registered a double-double of 16 points on 7-of-8 two-pointers and 11 rebounds, getting some help from Gortat and Burrell in the middle to make RheinEnergie get a 47-40 halftime edge. Three-pointers by Janar Talts and Demond Mallet gave the hosts a 53-40 edge right after the break. Even when McIntosh got the Dragons within 62-58, McElroy and Burrell allowed RheinEnergie to keep a 70-60 margin after 30 minutes. Hall and McIntosh led a 0-10 run that tied it at 70-70 with 6 minutes to go. The Dragons went scoreless in the next 5 minutes, while Gortat and Nadjfeji led a final 13-0 run that allowed RheinEnergie to win the game.
A dominant Green helped Ludwigsburg to get a 24-20 edge after 10 minutes. The hosts kept looking for an unstoppable Green, who scored 24 points on 8 of 9 shots and 6 of 6 free throws to give his team a 43-36 halftime lead. Ludwigsburg stayed ahead throughout a low-scoring third quarter, as a basket by Green gave the hosts a 53-46 edge after 28 minutes. A three-pointer by Goljovic and another basket by Cukinas made it an eight-point game, 58-50, after 30 minutes. Jacobsen and Ivan Pavic got Brose Baskets within 61-59 but Green kept pacing Ludwigsburg right when it mattered. Jacobsen, however, tied it at 69-69, forcing overtime and had 7 points in the extra period, including the game-winning triple with 7 seconds remaining.
