German League Semifinals, Game 3: June 10, 2007
The fight to make it to the German League final gets better than ever, as EnBW Ludwigsburg stayed alive while RheinEnergie keeps doing its best to defend the title and return to the Euroleague next season. EnBW Ludwigsburg registered its first win in this year's German League semifinals by downing Brose Baskets 74-65 at home on Sunday. Brose baskets still leads the best-of-five series 2-1 and hosts Game 4 in Bamberg on Tuesday. Michel Ferreira paced the winners with 33 points on 9-of-11 two-pointers, 15-of-18 free throws and 12 rebounds. Jerry Green added 14 while Je'Kel Foster had 10 for Ludwigsburg. Casey Jacobsen had 14 points for Brose Baskets, Zelly Wesson posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, Sean Dockery also added 13 points while Steffen Hamann got 12 for the guests. RheinEnergie took a 2-1 lead in its best-of-five semifinal series by edging the Artland Dragons 85-82 in Cologne on Sunday. Immanuel McElroy had 6 of his 27 points in the final 2 minutes to seal the outcome down the stretch. He had 12-of-16 two-pointer and grabbed 8 rebounds. Devin Green added 17 points while Ronnie Burrell had 15 for RheinEnergie. Filiberto Rivera had 22 points for the guests while Darius Hall and Lamont McIntosh each added 12 for the Dragons, that host Game 4 on Tuesday.
In Cologne, RheinEnergie led 53-46 at halftime but Rivera led the Dragons' comeback after the break, allowing the hosts to get a 61-62 edge late in the third quarter. A three-pointer by McIntosh made the Dragons keep a 66-67 lead after 30 minutes. McElroy led RheinEnergie early in the final period, but a triple by Caner and a basket by Bailey kept the Dragons ahead, 73-74, with 4 minutes to go. Hess buried a triple but Burrell answered from downtown for a 78-78 tie. McElroy shined in crunch time, scoring 6 points in a 7-1 run that sealed the outcome. He hit a mid-range jumper and added free throws for a 85-80 RheinEnergie lead with 14 seconds to go, enough for the hosts to get closer to advance to the finals.
In the other semifinal, Wesson was the only player to score for Brose Baskets in the opening 6 minutes, but he kept his team tied at 7-7. He got some help from Tim Ohlbrecht, Dockery and Jacobsen for a 17-17 tie after 10 minutes. Brose Baskets went scoreless in the opening 5 minutes of the second quarter, but Dockery still kept the guests in the game, 27-27. Ferreira and Green allowed Ludwigsburg to get a 31-27 halftime edge. Ferreira kept pacing Ludwigsburg after the break, but Wesson still kept Brose Baskets within 43-40 midway through the third quarter. Ferreira and Foster helped the hosts to boost their margin to 55-49 after 30 minutes. Ferreira stayed unstoppable at the start of a low-scoring fourth quarter, allowing his team to keep a 63-56 margin with 2 minutes to go. Brose baskets did not recover and Ludwigsburg managed to stay alive in the series.
