German League Semifinals, Game 4: June 12, 2007
Brose Baskets became the first team to advance to the German League finals by edging EnBW Ludwigsburg 65-60 in Bamberg in Game 4 of the best-of-five semifinals to win the series 3-1. Steffen Hamann led the winners with 21 points on 10-of-11 free throws. Darren Fenn added 13 while Casey Jacobsen had 11 for Brose Baskets. Gordon Scott had 16 points for Ludwigsburg while Nate Harris added 12. Meanwhile, the Artland Dragons survived a do-or-die situation by thrashing RheinEnergie 87-70 at home in Game 4 on Tuesday. Series is now tied at 2-2 but RheinEnergie hosts Game 5 on Thursday. Lamont McIntosh led the winners with 20 points. Filiberto Rivera scored most of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, Darius Hall posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while Bryan Bailey had 12 points for the Dragons. Immanuel McElroy and Aleksandar Nadjfeji each had 13 points for RheinEnergie while Marcin Gortat and Demond Mallet added 10 apiece for the guests.
Mallet, Gortat and Nadjfeji allowed RheinEnergie to get a 20-26 edge after 10 minutes. The Dragons did not panic, however, as McIntosh and Hall stepped up to make the hosts get a 44-40 halftime edge. RheinEnergie did not surrender, as Nadjfeji and McElroy shined in the third quarter for a 61-61 tie after 30 minutes. Rivera, Bailey and McIntosh led a game-breaking 19-4 run in the fourth quarter put the Dragons way ahead, 81-65, with less than 4 minutes to go. RheinEnergie never recovered and the Dragons managed to stay alive in the series and keep their dream alive.
Hamann and Fenn led Brose Baskets to a 19-18 edge after 10 minutes, but Harris, Je'kel Foster and Miljan Goljovic allowed Ludwigsburg to get a 30-34 halftime edge. Brose Baskets kept shutting down Jerry Green and Michel Ferreira early in the second half, not allowing Ludwigsburg to run its usual offense. Even with that, Ferreira scored his first points to get a 37-39 EnBW lead. Jacobsen and Fenn allowed Brose Baskets to get back ahead, 51-48, after three quarters. Hamann took over in the final period, leading his team to a crucial win that allows Brose Baskets to return to the German League finals.
