Italian League Finals, Game 1: June 13, 2007
Montepaschi Siena took a 1-0 lead in the Italian League finals by downing VidiVici Bologna 81-71 in Game 1 at home on Wednesday. As such, Montepaschi now has a 1-0 lead in the series, that travel to Bologna for Game 2 on Friday. Terrell McIntyre led the winners with 22 points, including 5 in a game-breaking 10-0 run late in the game. Rimantas Kaukenas added 17, Romain Sato had 13, Ben Eze 12 and Lonny Baxter 11. Dusan Vukcevic had 12 points for VidiVici while Guilherme Giovannoni added 11 for the guests. Sato, Eze and McIntyre helped Montepaschi to get an 11-6 lead early in the game, while Baxter and Kaukenas allowed the hosts to stay ahead, 22-17, after 10 minutes. Montepaschi kept full control of the game, led by an outstanding Kaukenas, as a three-pointer by McIntyre made it an 11-point game, 36-25. Vukcevic scored from downtown and Andreas Glyniadakis made free throws to get Virtus within 46-36 at halftime. A triple by Travis Best and a layup-plus-foul by Tyrone Grant brought VidiVici back to life, 48-44. It didn't last long, however, as Montepaschi used a 14-3 run to boost its lead to 64-50 after three quarters. VidiVici was not done, however, as three-pointers by Brett Blizzard, Giovannoni and Vukcevic fueled a 4-18 run that tied the game, 68-68, once Giovannoni his its third triple. McIntyre stepped up with 5 points in a 10-0 run that broke the game open, 78-68, and helped Montepaschi to take its first step to win the title.
