German League Semifinals, Game 5: June 14, 2007
The Artland Dragons made it to the German League final! The eight-seeded team in this year's playoffs had already downed regular season winner Alba Berlin 0-3 and now has knocked off 2006 champion RheinEnergie 2-3. The Dragons thrashed RheinEnergie 60-84 in Game 5 in Cologne on Thursday and will face Brose Baskets in the best-of-five finals. Filiberto Rivera paced the winners with 16 points. Darius Hall and Bryan Bailey each added 13 while Adam Hess had 11 for the Dragons. Devin Green had 14 points for RheinEnergie while Aleksandar Nadjfeji and Immanuel McElroy each added 11. Rivera and Hess allowed the Dragons to get a 15-23 lead after 10 minutes, as fans in Cologne already started to wonder. McElroy and Nadjfeji shined in the second quarter, but only managed to bring RheinEnergie within 35-40 at halftime. The Dragons found a go-to guy in Rivera, who joined forces with Chad Prewitt and Hall to break the game open, 48-64, late in the third quarter. RheinEnergie missed Demond Mallet, who faced severe foul trouble, and the Dragons did not hesitate to seal the outcome. Bailey and Tommy Smith took over with 4 points each early in the final period, as the guests boosted their margin to 49-72 and cruised to a critical win that allows the Dragons to keep fighting for German League glory!
