Serbian League finals, Game 1: June 17, 2007
Veteran forward Predrag Drobnjak banged in a three-point blast 3 seconds before the buzzer to lift host Partizan to a thrilling 91-89 victory over archrival Crvena Zvezda in Game 1 of the Serbian League playoff finals on Sunday. Partizan now leads the best-of-five series 1-0. Uros Tripkovic scored 19 points to lead Partizan on offense. Vonteego Cummings added 12 points and Drobnjak 10 for the winners. Milan Gurovic finished the game as top scorer with 40 points for Crvena Zvezda. Pero Antic, Vuk Radivojevic and Tadija Dragicevic added 10 each. Partizan struggled hard just to be in a position to win after 40 minutes. C. Zvezda was leading 39-45 after first half thanks to 23 points from Gurovic. At the begining of the third quarter, Partizan tied it up with a 10-0 run, but Gurovic answered with 10 points of his own and C. Zvezda held on to lead by 66-68 after 30 minutes. The guests still were up solidly, by 71-79, with 5 minutes left, but Partizan struck back with an 8-0 run to burst ahead 84-82. Antic put C. Zvezda in front 88-89 by making 1 of 2 free throws with 17 seconds left. Drobnjak had the last word, however. Despite having missed his previous three-point attempts, he measure his third try and proved to be cool-handed in the decisive moment to give his team the series-opening victory. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday.
