Italian League Finals, Game 3: June 17, 2007
Montepaschi Siena is once again the Italian League champion! Montepaschi won its second Italian League title by sweeping the best-of-five finals against VidiVici Bologna. Montepaschi capped an incredible domestic season by topping VidiVici 90-82 in Siena in game 3 on Sunday. Terrell McIntyre paced the winners with 22 points on 4-of-6 triples and 8-of-9 free throws. Joseph Forte added 21 points, Rimantas Kaukenas had 18, including a critical four-point play down the stretch, while Romain Sato posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for the new Italian League champion. Andrea Crosariol led Virtus with 21 points on 9-of-10 two-pointers. Guilherme Giovannoni added 13, Vlado Ilievski 11 and Dusan Vukcevic 10. Montepaschi won its first league title in 2004 and is now back atop in a historical season that comes with a ticket for the 2007-08 Euroleague.
Ben Eze and Forte led a 6-0 run that gave Montepaschi a 12-7 lead early in the game, but VidiVici counted on Best, Ilievski and Giovannoni to stay in the game. Crosariol followed a layup with a dunk while Oscar Gugliotta added another basket to make the guests get a 27-20 edge after 10 minutes. Crosariol kept providing a physical exhibition with two more dunks while Vukcevic had 5 points in a 7-0 run that he capped with a triple to boost VidiVici's lead to double digits, 40-51, at halftime. Montepaschi did not panic, however, and found its go-to guys in Sato and McIntyre. Both players led an 0-8 run that brought the hosts back in the game, 56-58. Forte hit a triple to tie the game, 62-62, but Vukcevic answered from downtown while Crosariol added a three-point play to viid Virtus ahead, 64-68, after 30 minutes. Forte and an outstanding McIntyre helped Montepaschi to get a 82-77 edge, but Crosariol dunked it twice to tie the game again, 82-82. Kaukenas simply took over with a go-ahead triple-and-foul while McIntyre allowed Montepaschi to celebrate a well-deserved Italian League title!
