Serbian League Finals, Game 2: June 19, 2007
Partizan is just one win away from winning its fifth consecutive Serbian League title, as it leads 2-0 in the best-of-five title series against Crvena Zvezda and hosts Game 3 on Friday. Partizan took another step to lift the Serbian League trophy by thrashing Crvena Zvezda 83-100 on the road in Game 2 on Tuesday. Vonteego Cummings led the winners with 29 points on 6-of-9 two-pointers and 11-of-11 free throws. He had 24 points in the second half to break the game open. Kosta Perovic added 18 points on 9-of-12 two-pointers, Milenko Tepic had 14 and Uros Tripkovic 10 for Partizan. Vuk Radivojevic led Zvezda with a career-best 37 points on 5-of-7 two-pointers, 5-of-7 triples and 12-of-13 free throws. Milan Gurovic had 13 points, Tadija Dragicevic 12 and Pero Antic 10 for the hosts.
Partizan opened the game with a 0-5 run that Cummings capped with a triple but Radivojevic and Dragocevic kept Zvezda in the game, 13-13. Free throws by Petar Popovic and Gurovic and a three-pointer by Radivojevic gave Zvezda a 25-23 edge before Milenko Tepic answered from downtown for a 25-26 Partizan edge after 10 minutes. Another triple by Tepic capped a 0-7 run and gave Partizan a 26-33 lead. Gurovic and Antic brought Zvezda back ahead 35-33. A three-point play by Micov and a final basket by Perovic allowed Partizan to regain the lead, 40-43, at halftime. Perovic found help from Cummings, who helped Partizan to boost its margin to 54-63 midway through the third quarter. Zvezda called timeout, as only Radivojevic found the way to the basket now. An outstanding Cummings still helped Partizan to get a 59-72 margin after three quarters. Gurovic fouled out early in the final period and the outcome was sealed. The game was interrupted for more than 10 minutes because tenths of seats were thrown to the floor. When Cummings scored 6 from the line and added a triple, Partizan led 65-87 with 6 minutes to go and the game was over. Game 3 is scheduled on Friday.
