Dutch League, Game 1: October 5-7, 2006
The Dutch League started this week and the EiffelTowers Den Bosch already send a message which echoed all around the championship by thrashing the Demon Astronauts 74-92 in Amsterdam on Saturday. Leon Rodgers led the winners with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Jones had 15 points, Travis Young added 12 and Sharone Wright 11 for the EiffelTowers. Peter Van Paassen had 22 points for the Astronauts, who trailed 39-48 at halftime and never recovered. The Hanzevast Capitals of Groningen became the first leader of the competition with a 2-0 record. The Capitals beat Rotterdam 77-65 at home on Thursday behind 17 points from Darnell Hinson and 16 from Gary Buchanan. Groningen added a 82-97 road win against Woon! Aris on Saturday. Hinson led his team again with 26 points while Buchanan had 23. The Polynorm Giants edged Zorg en Zekerheid 79-75, Matrixx Magixx beat Rotterdam 80-90 behind 22 points from Alhaji Mohammed, while Upstairs Weert thrashed Onmiworld 91-67. On Thursday, the Astronauts beat Matrixx Magixx 83-82 with Van Paassen leading all scorers with 23 points.
