Adriatic League, Game 4: October 9-10, 2006
FMP and Cibona stay as the only unbeaten teams in the Adriatic League after four games. FMP thrashed Zagreb 75-58 in Zeleznik behind 19 points from Dusko Savanovic and 17 from Bojan Krstovic. Meanwhile, Vedran Morovic had 19 points to lead Cibona in an 80-70 home win against archrivals Zadar. Four other teams - Partizan, Crvena Zvezda, Hemofarm and Union Olimpija - share the third place with a 3-1 record. Partizan downed Helios Domzale 81-67 in Belgrade on Monday. Uros Tripkovic led the winners with 21 points. Meanwhile, Crvena Zvezda beat Buducnost also in Belgrade. Milan Gurovic paced Zvezda with 18 points while Petar Popovic added 15 for the winners. nion Olimpija had to battle for all 40 minutes to beat Siroki Eronet 73-67 in Ljubljana on Tuesday. Domen Lorbek hit back-ot-back critical triples on his way to 17 points, while Hemofarm had less troubles than expected to down Bosna Asa BHT 76-101 in Sarajevo on Tuesday. Vladan Vukosavljevic led the winners with 30 points on 13-for-14 shooting. In other games, Split edged Geoplin Slovan 85-82.
Partizan lived up to the expectations by beating Helios Domzale 81-67 in Belgrade on Monday. Tripkovic led the winners with 21 points, Predrag Drobnjak added 13, Dusan Kezman had 11, Milenko Tepic 10 while Kosta Perovic grabbed 10 rebounds for Partizan. A put-back layup by tepic allowed Partizan to get a 22-20 lead after 10 minutes, while a 13-4 run which Perovic capped with free throws extended the hosts' margin to 35-24 midway through the second quarter. Three-pointers by Drobnjak, Kecman and Tripkovic broke the game after halftime, as Partizan boosted its lead to 67-46 after 30 minutes and cruised to a well-deserved win. FMP stayed unbeaten at 4-0 by thrashing Zagreb 75-58 in Zeleznik. Savanovic led the way with 19 points, Krstovic added 17, Aleksandar Rasic had 12 while Branko Cvetkovic and Zoran Erceg each scored 11 points for FMP. Rasic had 7 points late in the first quarter to make FMP get a 18-13 lead after 10 minutes. Zagreb stayed in the game for the best of the game and got within 40-37 midway through the third quarter, but Savanovic, Cvetkovic and Krstovic fueled a 10-0 run which sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer. Hemofarm had less troubles than expected to down Bosna Asa BHT 76-101 in Sarajevo on Tuesday. Vukosavljevic led the winners with 30 points on 13-for-14 shooting. Milos Borisov and Nebojsa Joksimovic each added 13, Predrag Suput had 12 and Miljan Rakic 11 in an easy road win for Hemofarm, which broke the game with a 12-28 partial in the third quarter and never looked back.
Cibona survived a tough battle by topping archrivals KK Zadar 80-70 in Zagreb on Tuesday, in a rematch of last year's Croatian League final. Morovic led the winners with 19 points while Chris Warren added 18 for Cibona, which led 30-23 after 10 minutes and kept a 51-47 edge at halftime. The game turned into a defensive battle after the break, but Cibona managed to keep a slim lead all the way and stay unbeaten after 4 games. Union Olimpija had to battle for all 40 minutes to beat Siroki Eronet 73-67 in Ljubljana on Tuesday. Lorbek led the winners with 17 points. Marko Milic added 11 while Manu Markoishvili and Ender Arslan each had 10 for Olimpija, which trailed 57-58 midway through the final period. Lorbel stepped up with a layup and added consecutive three-pointers to put Olimpija fully in charge, 68-61. A jumper by Arslan and free throws by Saso Ozbolt and Teemu Rannikko rounded a big win for Olimpija. Crvena Zvezda had less troubles to down Buducnost 95-81 in Belgrade. Gurovic paced Zvezda with 18 points, Popovic added 15, Radija Dragicevic had 14, Billy Thomas 11 and Vuk Radivojevic 11 for the hosts. Gurovic and Popovic had 9 points in a 10-0 run which broke the game early in the second quarter, 28-18. Another 7-0 run which Dragicevic capped with a layup allowed Zvezda to get a 15-point lead, 44-29, at halftime. Nothing changed in the second half, as Zvezda get a double-digit lead almost all the way to add a big win.
