Baltic League, Game 3: October 10, 2006
Lietuvos Rytas recorded a monstrous 124-40 win over Atletas Kaunas, while Ventspils and Zalgiris Kaunas remained undefeated Tuesday in Baltic League action. League champion L. Rytas set the league scoring mark with the remarkable offensive output, which saw the club improve to 2-1, bouncing back from a shock loss at the hands of ASK Riga. The game was one-sided from the start, as the hosts went up 28-4 after 10 minutes and never looked back. Marijonas Petravicius led L. Rytas with 18 points and 6 rebounds, Arturas Jomantas contributed 17 points, 7 boards, and 6 assists, and Mindaugas Lukauskis added 15. Darius Lukminas and Darius Dimavicius scored 12 points apiece for Atletas. Zalgiris moved atop Group A with a 3-0 record after topping Neptunas Klaipeda 94-70. Leading 45-38 at halftime, Zalgiris blew the game open in the third quarter as Kirk Penney scored 9 to lead a 19-4 run that effectively ended Neptunas' hopes. Marko Popovic led Zalgiris with 19, Tanoka Beard added 17 points and 12 rebounds, Jonas Maciulis had 17 points and 4 assists and Penney finished with 11. Vitalijus Stanevicius led the losing effort with 19 points and 11 boards. Ventspils went on the road to record an 87-95 win at Nevezis Kedainiai, which saw its record swell to 4-0. The game was close throughout, with Nevezis closing to within 3 with two minutes to go, but back-to-back triples by Eddie Shannon and Aigars Vitols iced the win for Ventspils. Dalron Johnson led the way with 19, Raimonds Vaikulis added 18, Maris Lakso 17, Vitols 12 and Shannon scored 10 points and dished 5 assists. Gytis Sirutavicius put up 19 in a losing effort. In Tuesday's other games, Siauliai scored a 60-54 win over Riga Barons and Tartu Rock defeated Panevezys 83-74.
