Swiss League, Game 3: October 14, 2006
Birstal Starwings edged Basket-Club Boncourt 85-87 to take sole possession of first place in the Swiss League on Saturday. Birstal, which improved to 3-0, took advantage of BBC Monthey's 79-81 defeat at the hands of Lugano Tigers to become the only team in the league to win three games. The Starwings were down 56-33 at halftime, but stormed back for the victory. Nikola Dacevic, Edwin Draughan and Zainoul Bah combined for 63 points to lead Lugano to its second win. Monthey's Yuanta Holland scored 30 in defeat. Benetton Fribourg Olympic, which thrashed Aurelys BBC Nyon 97-64, and Sion Herens, which has a bye week, are also undefeated with 2-0 marks. Fribourg started with a 15-4 run and never looked back. Dave Esterkamp led the way with 26 points and Harold Mrazek added 21. In other action, Meyrin Grand-Saconnex defeated Vevey Riviera Basket 81-76 and Lausanne Morges Basket edged the Geneva Devils 79-78.
