Turkish League, Game 2: October 14-15, 2006
Fenerbahce Ulker defeated rival Besiktas Cola Turka 83–71 in the first derby of the Turkish League season at the Abdi Ipekci hall in Istanbul. The hosts had 8,000 noisy fans cheering them on as they topped Besiktas for the second time this season. Fenerbahce had previously eliminated Besiktas in the Final 8 of the Turkish Cup. The game was balanced early on, with Fenerbahce going to Kaspars Kambala inside to take a 22–19 lead after 10 minutes. Willie Solomon and Mirsad Turkcan stepped up in the second period to lead the hosts to a 46–33 halftime advantage. Fenerbahce held Besiktas without a basket for three minutes in the middle of the third quarter to increase its lead to 25 points. Some inspired play by Jamel Thomas helped Besiktas close the gap, but it would be too little, too late. Solomon lead Fener with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, while Turkcan added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kaspars Kambala chipped in 14 points, Damir Mrsic 12 and Ibrahim Kutluay ended with 10 points. Thomas had 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Besiktas and Cevher Ozer contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds. Galatasaray Cafe Crown topped Tofas of Bursa 68–61 behind a strong showing from Gerald Fitch, who scored half of his team's points. Christopher Booker led Tofas with 18 points. In other games, Selcuk University downed Tekel 84–60, Turk Telekom defeated Darussafaka 93–71, Oyak Renault bested Alpella 98–64, Banvit outscored Mersin Buyuksehir Belediye 79–64 and Beykoz defeated Pinar Karsiyaka 81–73.
