Austrian League, Game 1: October 14-16, 2006
The Austrian League started this weekend with defending champs Allianz Swans Gmunden downing WBC Kraftwerk Wels 87-77 at home in the most interesting game of this round on Monday. Ian Boylan led the winners with 23 points, Matthias Mayer added 20 and Deteri Mayes 18 for Gmunden. which led 50-42 at halftime and boosted its margin to 71-54 after 30 minutes to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. The Superfund Bulls of Kapfenberg had less troubles than expected to down Worthersee Piraten 83-67 at home on Sunday. Ramiz Suljanovic led the Bulls with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Jason Forrestal added 17 points for the winners. The Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions became the first leader atop the standings by thrashing Basketball St. Polten 99-72 at home behind 37 points on 8 of 11 three-pointers from Stjepan Stazic. In other games, the Viva 49ers beat UBC OkoStadt Gussing Knights 84-74, Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg edged BSC Raiffeisen Panthers Furstenfeld 76-72 behind 33 points from Bryian Edwards while Macabido Gunners Oberwart defeated Basket Clubs of Vienna 83-66.
