French League, Game 6: October 18, 2006
Kenny Gregory - Le Mans Sarthe Basket Adecco Asvel stayed as the only team unbeaten atop the French League standings, as its postponed its visit to Paris to October 31. Roanne, Chalon and Nancy are right behind at 5-1. Nancy beat Gravelines 81-69 at home on Wednesday. Tariq Kirksay paced the winners with 24 points. Dan McClintock added 19, Cedrick Banks had 12, Victor Samnick 11 and John Linhean 10 in an easy win for Nancy, which led 66-49 after three quarters and never looked back, not missing injured center Cyril Julian. Le Mans improved to 2-4 by thrashing Hyeres-Toulon 52-74 on the road on Wednesday night. Kenny Gregory paced the winners with 16 points while newcomer Tyson Wheeler and Eric Campbell each had 12 for Le Mans, which limited Hyeres-Toulon to just 4 points in the opening period. Gregory and Wheeler fueled a 0-16 opening run which allowed Le Mans to get a 4-21 lead after 10 minutes. Hyeres-Toulon never recovered, trailing 23-42 at halftime and 39-57 after 30 minutes, enough for Le Mans to seal the outcome. Strasbourg also moved up to 2-4 by edging Dijon 85-86 with a game-winning triple by a recovered Lonnie Cooper. Chuck Eidson led the winners with 21 points, Michael Smith added 19 and Cooper 18 for Strasbourg. Terrance Johnson had 24 points for Dijon, which led almost all the way since the start of the second quarter and still kept a 84-79 lead already in the final minute. Gauthier Darrigand and Eidon hit 4 of 4 free throws, while Eidson collected a critical steal and fed Cooper for the winning triple, sealing an incredible win in come-from-behind fashion. Pau-Orthez rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Reims 86-78 at home and improved to 2-4. C.C. Harrison led the winners with 22 points, Michael Bauer added 14, Thierry Rupert 12 and Iam Mahinmi 10 for Pau, which trailed 34-40 at halftime. Harrison and Buer led Pau after the break, as Pau got a 67-59 lead and kept a safe cushion in the final period. In other games, Cholet edged Clermont 62-59, Bourg beat Besancon 74-81, Roanne thrashed Orleans 101-75 while Chalon defeated Le Havre 79-63.
