Israeli League Cup: October 17-20, 2006
Ironi Ashkelon claimed the first title up for grabs this season in Israel with a 79-73 victory Thursday over Maccabi Rishon Lezion in the League Cup final. Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem finished third with an 83-79 win over Givat Shmuel in the consolation game. Hapoel, which was without an injured Tamar Slay in the tourney, lost the semifinals to Ironi Ashkelon 60-65. Hapoel had the upper hand from the opening minutes and led 41-33 by halftime, but scored only 19 points in the entire second half, which allowed Ashkelon to come back. Timmy Bowers led Hapoel with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Matan Naor had 12 and Jurica Golemac finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Marcus Hatten led Ashkelon with 20.

In the third-place game, Hapoel bounced back at Givat Shmuel's expense. Hapoel led 50-39 during the third quarter, before Givat Shmuel launched uts comeback. However it wasn't enough to threaten the hosts as Hapoel won 83-79 behind 20 points by Bowers. Mario Austin added 16 while Ed Cota and Erez Markovic scored 13 each. Bo David led Givat with 35 points. After eliminating Hapoel in the semis Ashkelon continued its dance and celebrated the first trophy in the club's history, topping Rishon 79-73. Or Eitan scorec 17 and Hatten 16 to lead Ashkelon. Brian Tolbert had 27 points for Rishon, which beat Givat Shmuel in the sems 109-102 in overtime.
