Austrian League, Game 2: October 20, 2006
Defending champs Allianz Swans Gmunden stepped up their defense down the stretch to improve to 2-0 in the Austrian League on Friday. The Swans held opponent kelag Worthersee Piraten to just 10 points in the last 10 minutes as they won 70-83. Deteri Mayes scored a game-high 27, Peter Hutter added 17, Andreas Helmigk 14 and Ian Boylan 12 for Gmunden, which outrebounded its opponents 33-21. Samo Grum paced Worthersee with 23. Kapfenberg Bulls and Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg also won to keep a share of first place at 2-0. The Bulls downed Basket Clubs of Vienna 55-79 as Damir Zeleznik turned in a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Bryan Edward erupted for 38 points and Christoph Gangl added 23 as Klosterneuburg bettered UBC okoStadt Gussing Knights 89-102. In other games, Basketball St. Polten defeated VIVA 49ers 75-68, WBC Kraftwerk Wels topped Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions 100-75 and BSC Raiffeisen Panthers Fürstenfeld beat Macabido Gunners Oberwart 87-73.
