Belgian League, Game 7: October 21, 2006
Dexia Mons-Hainaut routed R Atomia Brussels 97-69 to to improve to 5-1 in the Belgian League on Saturday. Sanex Antwerp G, which had been the sole league-leader heading into the seventh round of play, suffered its second loss of the season, 91-88, to Verviers-Pepinster, while Spirou Charleroi downed Basket Gr Leuven 82-64. Both Antwerp and Charleroi now share the lead with 5-2 marks. Telindus Oostende moved into fourth as it defeated Okapi Aalstar 89-68. Shawnta Rogers had 19 points and 8 assists for Mons, as it took a 12-point lead after 10 minutes and cruised to victory. Kevin Houston added 20 points and 7 boards, Dragan Markovic had 11 and George Evans and Bingo Merriex scored 10 each for the winners. Tommy Johnson scored 26 points and Chris Young posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for Brussels. Pepinster bounced back from a 44-52 halftime deficit to top Antwerp. Justin Gray led the way with 24 points and 8 assists, Josiah James had 21 points and 8 rebounds and Aleksander Zecevic added 20 for Pepinster. Len Matela paced Antwerp with 24, while Mladen Sekularac was good for 22. Charleroi led 43-29 at halftime and put the game out of reach with a 19-8 third period. Damir Krupalija and Kris Sergeant scored 17 points each for Charleroi, Corey Brewer added 13 points and 7 assists and Amit Tamir had 12. Marchall Phillips led Leuven with 15. Guy Muya triggered a 9-0 run early in the second period as Oostende pulled away from Aalstar. Vanja Plisnic led five players in double figures with 20, while Elvir Ovcina had 15 points and 8 rebounds, Lavor Postell and Muya had 13 each and Rashard Wright finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for Oostende. Adam Hall led Aalstar with 16. Also Saturday, Liege Basket beat Euphony Bree 79-83.
