Polish League, Game 3: October 21-22, 2006
It was another thriller in the Polish League as defending champion Prokom Trefl Sopot needed to sweat before defeating Polpak Swiecie on the road 65-67. Prokom trailed for almost the entire game, but used its opponents' mistakes down the stretch to steal the win. With less than three minutes remaining, the hosts were ahead by 5 points and had the ball, but Prokom came back once again. Rashid Atkins hit the bomb from a downtown to tie the game and then Justin Hamilton made 2 free throws with five seconds left to lift Prokom to 3-0 and hand Polpak its first loss. Christian Dalmau led winners with 17 points, Adam Wojcik added 12, and Atkins finished with 10. Above all, it was the man in the middle, center Huseyin Besok, who shined with16 points and 12 rebounds in just 21 minutes. David Moss and Harding Nana both had 14 to lead Polpak, and Nana added 14 rebounds. Anwil Wloclawek assured itself of a tie with Prokom atop the standing with a comfortable victory over Czarni Slupsk, 83-63. The home team had a double-digit advantage early in the second quarter and never looked back. Mark Dickel was the main factor with 18 points and 10 assists. Andrzej Pluta led Anwil with 20 points, while Brandon Kurtz and Gatis Jahovics both had 13. Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz scored 14 for Czarni. Kager Gdynia won for the first time ever in the top league, downing Turow Zgorzelec 60-57. Andres Rodriguez missed a triple at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime. Courtney Eldridge led Kager with 16 points and 6 assists. Robert Witka had 14 for Turow. AZS Koszalin is now the only winless team after dropping a 68-73 decision to newcomer Znicz Jaroslaw, despite Chris Hunter's 19 points. Tony Atnis had 19 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds for the guests. Gipsar Stal Ostrow easily beat Unia Tarnow 93-68 as five players scored in double figures. Unia's Wojciech Majchrzak led all scorers with 21. Radoslaw Hyzy and Miha Fon both had 16 points in Bergson Slask's 75-71 decision over Polpharma Starogard. Greg Harrington scored 21 for Polpharma.
