British League, Week 5-6: October 26-29, 2006
The Milton Keynes Lions got back-to-back wins in the British Championship this weekend and stay atop the standings with a 5-1 record. The Lions thrashed the Worcester Wolves 67-84 on the road on Saturday behind 28 points from Tony Windless, and then added a 96-88 home win against the Sheffield Sharks on Sunday. Windless shined again with 23 points, as the Lions recovered from a 47-52 halftime deficit to win the game. The Guildford Heat stay right behind at 4-1 by beating the DMU Leicester Riders 86-76 on Sunday. Brian Dux, Mike Martin and Dan Wardrope each ahd 15 points in an easy home win for the Heat, which led 70-48 after three quarters. On Saturday, the Newcastle Eagles needed overtime to beat the Riders 78-85 on the road. Jeremy Hyatt paced the winners with 23 points and hit free throws to send the game to overtime, 73-73. Player/coach Fabulous Flournoy had 7 points in a 0-12 final run which allowed the Eagles to seal the win. The Scottish Rocks edged London United 73-77 also on Saturday behind 25 points from Sterling Davis. On Friday, London United had beaten the Chester Jets 87-89, the Eagles thrashed the Wolves 87-62 while the Plymouth Raiders bested the Sharks 90-85. In British Trophy games, the Heat beat the Reading Rockets 92-76 on Thursday while the Sharks topped the Coventry Crusaders 82-94.
