Russian League, Game 5: November 2-5, 2006
CSKA Moscow confirmed its good moment and improved to 5-0 to stay atop the Russian League standings by overwhelming Ural Great 102-58 at home on Saturday. Anton Ponkrashov led 6 CSKA players in double digits with 17 points. J.R. Holden and Nikita Kourbanov each added 16, Aleksey Savrasenko had 14, David Vanterpool popped 13 and Zakhar Pashutin 10 for CSKA, which sat out Theodoros Papaloukas and Matjaz Smodis. CSKA led 27-7 after 10 minutes and extended its lead at the end of each quarter to seal a massive home win. Unics is right behind with a 4-0 record by edging Spartak St. Petersburg 78-83 on the road on Thursday. Sergei Chikalkin had 16 points for Unics, Saulius Stombergas and Ksystof Lavrinovic each added 14, Darjus Lavrinovic scored 13 points while Petr Samoilenko dished 10 assists for the winners. Spartak trailed all the way in the second half, but got within 76-79 already in the final minute. Samoilenko and Chikalkin sealed the outcome from the free throw line. Dynamo improved to 4-1 by beating Standart 55-101 on the road on Sunday. Dynamo led 28-49 at halftime and kept boosting its margin at the end of each period. Andrei Trushkin led the winners with 19 points, Sergey Monya added 16 and Dmitry Domani 14 for Dynamo. In other games, Dynamo Moscow Region beat Standart 78-95 on Wednesday and then added a 63-84 road win against Samara on Friday, while Lokomotiv-Rostov thrashed University Surgut 81-57 on Thursday.
