Belgian League, Game 9: November 4, 2006
Spirou Charleroi and Sanex Antwerp G lead the Belgian League standings, each with a 7-2 record. Charleroi had less troubles than expected to thrash Okapi Aalstar 96-58 in the Spiroudome on Saturday. Ralph Biggs led 6 Charleroi players in double digits with 16 points. Tremmell Darden and Greg Grays each had 13, Kris Sergeant and Cyril Akpomedah added 12 apiece while Andre Riddick popped 10 in an easy home win for Charleroi. Meanwhile, Antwerp edged Dexia Mons-Hainaut 67-69 on the road in a big showdown on Saturday. Gur Shelef led the winners with 15 points. George Evans led Mons with 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting, Monty Mack added 12 and Jim Potter 10 for the hosts.It all came down to the final period, in which Antwerp got the lead while Markovic missed a game-tying three in Mons' final possession. Mons now ties for the third place in the standings along with Telindus Oostende, which overwhelmed Verviers-Pepinster 101-69 to improve to 6-3 in the league board. Lavor Postell and Toby Bailey each had 17 points for Oostende, Rashad Wright added 15, Guy Muya 14 and Elvir Ovcina 10 for Oostende, which led 54-27 at halftime and never looked back. In the other game this week, Basket Gr Leuven beat Euphony Bree 81-69.
