Adriatic League, Game 8: November 4-5, 2006
FMP stays for the second consecutive week atop the Adriatic League standings with a 7-1 record. FMP edged Siroki Eronet 85-83 in Zeleznik on Saturday due to a game-winning layup by Aleksandar Rasic. Zoran Erceg led the winners with 21 points, and even when FMP trailed 31-45 at halftime, it managed to rally in the second half and seal a big win in come-from-behind fashion. Partizan, Cibona and Hemofarm keep tying for the second spot each with a 6-2 record. Partizan used outstanding defense to beat Zagreb 57-63 on the road behind 23 points and 15 rebounds from Kosta Perovic. Meanwhile, Hemofarm showed its power by downing Crvena Zvezda 68-76 in Belgrade on Saturday. Vladan Vukosavljevic led the winners with 22 points on 10 of 10 free throws, while Nebojsa Jojksimovic and Predrag Suput each had 18 in a big win for Hemofarm. Cibona edged Helios Domzale 70-76 on the road behind 22 points and 9 rebounds from Brent Wright. Union Olimpija improved to 4-4 by beating Bosna Asa BHT 69-78 on the road, as Marko Milic had 22 points and Domen Lorbek added 21 for the winners. In other games, Buducnost beat Geoplin Slovan 70-77 while Zadar thrashed Split 67-90 behind 35 points from Carl English.
Rasic was the game hero by hitting the game-winning layup which allowed FMP to beat Siroki Eronet 85-83 and improve to 7-1 in the standings. Erceg led the winners with 21 points, Dragan Labovic added 19, Rasic had 14 and Bojan Krstovic 13 for FMP. Darren McLinton had 16 points for Siroki, which led 31-45 at halftime. Rasic and Cvetkovic fueled the FMP comeback, but Siroki still kept a 57-66 edge after 30 minutes. Krstovic and Labovic combined for 10 points in a 13-0 run which gave FMP a 81-77 lead. Siroki did not give up, as free throws by McLinton tied it again at 83-83 before Rasic scored to make FMP seal a difficult win. Partizan also had to work hard to beat Zagreb 57-63 on the road on Saturday. Perovic paced the winners with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Predrag Drobnjak added 10 points for Partizan, which led 23-31 at halftime. Perovic and Luka Bogdanovic helped Partizan to get a 35-49 lead early in the fourth quarter, enough to seal the outcome. Union Olimpija beat Bosna Asa BHT 69-78 in Sarajevo to improve to 4-4 in the standings. Milic led Olimpija with 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting, Lorbek added 21 and Saso Ozbolt 13 for Olimpija. Ozbolt had 11 points in the second quarter to make Olimpija get a 32-44 halftime lead. Bosna never recovered, as Milic and Lorbek allowed the guests to get a big road win.
Hemofarm improved to 6-2 and sent a message which echoed all around the league by beating Crvena Zvezda 68-76 in Belgrade on Saturday. Vukosavljevic led the winners with 22 points on 10 of 10 free throws, while Joksimovic and Suput each had 18 for Hemofarm. Newcomer Antonio Burks had 18 points for Zvezda, Billy Thomas added 15 and Petar Popovic 14. Thomas and Burks allowed Zvezda to get a 19-13 lead late in the first quarter, but Suput had 6 points in a 2-13 run which made Hemofarm get a double-digit lead, 33-43, at halftime. A three-pointer by Vuk Radivojevic and a put-back layup by Popovic brought Zvezda within 55-61 after 30 minutes, but Vukosavljevic had 12 points in the opening 7 minutes of the final period and led Hemofarm to a well-deserved win. Cibona edged Helios Domzale 70-76 on the road on Sunday. Wright led the winners with 22 points, Jerry McCullough had 13, Davor Kus 12 and Marin Rozic 10 for Cibona, which trailed 54-51 after 30 minutes. Rozic scored 7 straight points which put Cibona ahead for good midway through the final period.
